Study of the morphological changes and meander pattern of the Zohre River using satellite images

Erosion and sedimentation that will lead to morphological changes in rivers are found in alluvial rivers. Morphological changes in rivers can cause numerous problems, so studying the shape of alluvial rivers in morphology is very important in morphology science. In this study, morphology changes of the Zohreh River in the Hendijan plain, for a length of about 23 km between latitudes 30´ 49° and 38´  49° E and latitude 2´  30° and 6´  30° N was investigated. For this purpose, satellite imagery of the river plan was studied for three time periods, including the old plan, 2000 and 2014. Satellite images were analyzed in GIS environment and important parameters in river morphological changes such as bending coefficient, central angle, arc length, curvature radius and etc. were calculated. The results show that in the past there have been four intersections or shortcuts in this river and that a shortcut can be predicted in the future. The number of torsions decreased from 35 to 21 during these three time periods, and changes in other torsional properties occurred. The mean curvature coefficient varied from 1.64 to 1.58, the radius of curvature was from 450.1 to 632.3 m, the central angle from 196.6 to 193.3 ° and the arc length from 1197 to 1154.6 m. According to Wolfertchr('39')s classification based on the curvature coefficient and the Corneis classification based on the central angle, the Zohreh River in the Hendijan Plain is classified as meandering and  more developed meander category, respectively.
